OSM’s own Dr. Gene Tekmyster has been appointed as a Member of the Patient Safety Committee for The North American Spine Society (NASS). The North American Spine Society is a multidisciplinary medical organization dedicated to fostering the highest quality, evidenced-based and ethical spine care by promoting education, research and advocacy. NASS is comprised of more than 8,000 members from several disciplines, including orthopedic surgery, neurosurgery, physiatry, neurology, radiology, anesthesiology, research and physical therapy.
Members of the NASS Patient Safety Committee are responsible for the development and oversight of all NASS patient safety activities and education.
“It is with great pleasure I accept the appointment to the patient safety committee. I believe that by focusing on safety, patient outcomes will certainly improve,” said Dr. Tekmyster.
Dr. Gene Tekmyster is Board Certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation with subspecialty training in interventional spine care and sports medicine. He received his medical degree from Touro University College of Osteopathic Medicine in California and went on to complete an Internal Medicine Internship at Seton Hall University-School of Health and Medical Sciences, Newark, New Jersey. Thereafter, he completed his residency training in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at New York Medical College and State University of New York. Dr. Tekmyster also completed a fellowship at OSS Health/Sinai Hospital of Baltimore which provided in-depth training in sports medicine with a focus on advanced interventional spine care. His special interests include the care and prevention of athletic injuries, concussions and musculoskeletal ultrasound.
